Here are some comments Thorin made about the piece in an email to me:

“I used python to generate almost the entire score. There is a little
bit of hand editing here and there. I’m still a bit green with
programming. Very briefly: I use python to read Scala tuning scales
(Did I mention it’s largely Just Intonation?). Then there’s lots of
sequence permutations which index pitch scales, intervals and rhythmic
cells. While working: I generate lots of score files, and use a master
score with numerous #include statements. That’s pretty much the entire
composition.

There will (should) be more… it is ‘part I’ after all. I usually use
Csound in every piece I write, but this is really the first
Csound-only one. I have to admit… it takes some persistence to iron
out the wrinkles, but, once you have the tools, and a working method,
it gets easier.”

Hi all,
I’ve completed a new version of Diffamator incorporating some of the
suggestions from this list.

Diffamator
Version 0.91
Diffamator is an MIDI controlled FM synth which can be randomized to
find interesting sounds. It features the same algorithms available in
the Yamaha DX7 synth, but might not really sound exactly like it, since
not all of the synth is implemented. It can also store presets in one of
its 30 memory slots.

What’s new in Version 0.91:
* The FM instrument (instrument 1) can now be triggered by MIDI or from
the score because it uses the MIDI interop opcodes.
* An additional ‘i Print’ button has been added, which prints the score
event for the current sound. It is accompanied by Frequency, Duration
and velocity slots to determine the generated score text.
* Keyboard command shortcuts have been added.
* Diffamator can now work without a GUI if the line #define ENABLEFL ##
is commented out. This is useful to have some of the features (and the
sounds!) of diffamator from the terminal (you still need a MIDI
controller to hear diffamator in real-time)
* Added lock toggle which keeps the algorithm locked when randomizing.

Hello all

From the main CSound page, one gets informed that the download site for
CSound is :

http://sourceforge.net/projects/csound

A couple of lines bellow, another download location is mentioned:

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/csound/

where one is supposed to find the newest Windows installers. However,
when visiting this second site, we find that version 5.03 installers is
available.

To add to the confusion, the first download site announces the
availability of CSound 5.01 (while we were informed that 5.02 is
actually the newest one).

Please clarify.
