call for recordings: interviews for project x

Hi all,

I’m pleased to be designing sound for Project X, an
interactive multimedia
presentation by Hand2Mouth Theatre Company in
Portland, OR. The show is an
opportunity for spectators/ participants to
consider longevity, legacy,
memory, and perceptions of the
world.

Attendees of the Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle will be able to
witness a
mobile version of the show over Labor Day. In preparation, we’re
looking
for recordings of interviews with people about their lives, memories,
and
hopes for the future. What I’m looking for is brief audio
recordings–
about 5 minutes, though more or less is not a big deal–
answering the
questions listed below, or even addressing matters roughly
related. We’re
especially hoping to beef up our collection of testimony from
children and
elders so it’s not just a bunch of voices of people in their 20s
and 30s.
Maybe you already have such recordings lying around…

What
will we do with these recordings? Lots of stuff… montage it with
other
interviews and music for playback inside the performance space, and
offer it
for listening as part of various collections throughout the
show
area.

If you’re interested in donating your audio, please upload
it to a url
where I can download it, or contact me for a snailmail address to
send a
CD. *Please* do not email files directly to me. Unfortunately, we
can’t
afford to pay anyone for these recordings– sorry.

Questions
follow– we’d be much obliged if you can help. Thanks much
in
advance!

Best,
Mike Hallenbeck

What
will the world be like in 50 years?

However old you are, what will the
world be like in that amount of time?

How would you describe people to
aliens?

If you could, what’s something you would tell a loved one who
died?

What’s the best age to be? Why?

What’s the meaning of
life?

What did you think the world would be like in 2008 when you were a
child?

(For the elderly:) What’s your happiest/saddest memory? (OR:)
What’s the
best/worst feeling in the world?
