call for submissions for compilation celebrating Obama victory

Experimedia (one of textura.org ‘s top 10 labels of 2008) invites
artists to submit sound pieces to a free netlabel compilation
celebrating the election of Barack Obama. All pieces considered for
the compilation should be comprised of the voice of Obama and crowds
from any of his speeches. Will get more organized details later after
I catch up on some work I put aside while volunteering.
Send links to submissions to info@experimedia.net with subject ‘YES WE CAN’.

ICMC 2009: Call for Music

Call for Music: ICMC 2009
http://www.icmc2009.org/music

The Schulich School of Music of McGill University, in association with
the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and
Technology (CIRMMT), will host the International Computer Music
Conference (ICMC) in Montreal (Quebec, Canada) from 16 – 21 August
2009. We invite the submission of electroacoustic music, video and
installation works that reflect the diversity of the field of
computer-enhanced sonic art. Special emphasis is put on interactive
and intermodal forms. Opportunities exist to combine digital resources
with a variety of instrumental ensembles and soloists as detailed
below, but specialized performance proposals are also welcome.
Further details are available below and at the conference website
(www.icmc2009.org).

The online submission system will open on 5 January 2009.

Key Dates for Submissions:

– 5 January 2009: Music Submission Site Open
– 30 January 2009: Music Submission Deadline
– 15 April 2009: Music Decision Notification
– 15 May 2009: Final Music Deadline

Submission Types:

Composers should submit MP3-formatted audio files or MP4-formatted
video files with all author information removed for blind review.
Further details, including scores and technical requirements, will be
uploaded to the online submission system as well. Submission types can
include:

– Acousmatic works (stereo and multi-channel)
– Mixed works for live performer(s) and electronics
– Works for digital musical instruments
– Works involving video
– Installations

Soloists will be available for all standard orchestra instruments and
small ensemble formats. Video projection facilities will be present at
all performance venues. Installations will primarily be set up in
CIRMMT labs, the MMR, or in the Tanna Schulich Foyer (see the Venues
tab for further information).

These submissions will be subject to blind review by an international
panel. The composer must pay the conference registration fee for a
selected work to be programmed. Attendance by the composer is highly
encouraged but not absolutely required. However, the performance may
be cancelled if any of the following occur: 1. the music and necessary
performance materials (score, software, …) are not submitted by the
“Final Music” deadline; 2. associated software does not function
properly; or 3. the documentation is not complete enough to allow the
piece to be properly rehearsed and performed.

Rehearsals:

Rehearsals for performances will be scheduled in advance and composers
are encouraged to be present at the dress rehearsal a day or two
before the performance.

SuperCollider Symposium pre-announcement

Hi all,

The third SuperCollider Symposium will be held at Wesleyan University from Thursday April 9 to Sunday April 12, 2009.
The symposium will begin at 8PM Thursday with a presentation by the editors of the forthcoming SuperCollider Book
and a keynote address by James McCartney.

All symposium events will take place in the Center for the Arts at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.
The deadline for proposals for papers, performances, installations, and workshops will be January 15; complete details will
appear at supercollider.wesleyan.edu in about a week’s time.

The Inn at Middletown, which is within walking distance of the Center for the Arts, will offer rooms to conference participants at $125 a night (these
are rooms with two queen beds, so they can be split). Other accommodations can be found in the vicinity but require a car. We will make efforts to
make it as simple as possible for people to get to the conference from NYC and JFK airport.

Harvestworks (http://www.harvestworks.org/) will accept proposals for pre or post symposium workshops to take place in their facility
at 596 Broadway, New York, NY. These proposals should be submitted directly to Harvestworks by December 1. Enrollment levels will
determine which workshops actually take place. Please put SUPERCOLLIDER in the subject heading as they will also be fielding numerous
applications for their AIR program at the same time.

Once we have the WWW site for the symposium up and running we will make a full announcement. This pre-announcement is being sent to the
developer and user lists to let you begin planning now that the basic schedule has been determined.

Cheers,

Ron Kuivila
