The Schulich School of Music of McGill University, in association with the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT), will host the International Computer Music Conference (ICMC) in Montreal (Quebec, Canada) from 16 – 21 August 2009. We invite the submission of music and papers exploring the intersection of music technology research and computer music creation. The online submission system is open. The deadline for full paper and music submissions has been extended to 8 February 2009. We hope you can participate.

Aimaako Festival 2009: Llamado a obras/ Appel à Oeuvres/ Call For Works

The Electroacoustical Chilean Community (CECh) annually organizes the International Electroacoustic Music Festival of Santiago de Chile, “Ai-maako”.

The ninth edition of the festival will take place between the 1st and the 10th of October 2009. During its existence, more than 500 works by creators from diverse countries have been performed. Audiovisual submissions are especially encouraged for this version.

CECh invites the electro-acoustical community to participate in our festival. Submissions must be sent before May 31, 2009 (the post office stamp will be valid as a reference) to the following address:

The works sent must fulfill the following conditions in order to be eligible: 
 
a) Acousmatical or tape pieces (only 1 work) 
– Format: Audio CD or DAT. 
– CD-data and technical notes or diffusion score, in case of multi-channel pieces 
– Pieces of a duration no longer than 10 minutes 
 
b) Mixed Pieces (depending on the organizers’ possibilities of available soloists; only 1 work): 
– Works for soloist and electronics 
– Duration no longer than 10 minutes 
– Format: Audio CD or DAT 
– CD-data and technical notes or diffusion score, in case of multi-channel pieces 
– The instrumental score must be sent by regular or registered post 
– Please include a recording of the electronic part alone as well as another one with the piece as a whole (electronics + acoustic instruments)

c) Audiovisual works
– Format: DVD
– If the audio is 5.1 (surround) only AC3 (Dolby Surround) will be accepted. We have no DTS decoders available.
– Duration must not exceed 10 min. 

d) Send contact information, biography and program notes (100 words maximum each) via email to the following address: aimaako@cech.cl. If this information is not received by email, the application will not be processed at all. Spanish translations are very welcomed.

The list of selected works will be published by July 31, 2009. Selected composers will be notified by email.

3rd Prix Ars Electronica – International Competition for CyberArts


3rd Prix Ars Electronica – International Competition for CyberArts is open for entries now! :: Online Submission is at http://www.aec.at/prix_submit_en.php – Deadline: March 6, 2009.

DIGITAL MUSICS: Contemporary digital sound productions from the broad spectrum of “electronica” come in for consideration in the “Digital Musics” category, as do works combining sound and media, computer compositions ranging from electro-acoustic to experimental music, as well as sound installations. Regardless of the media or style utilized by the respective artist, utmost consideration is given to the entry’s musical qualities and sound artistry. 

This music category of the Prix Ars Electronica is open to: 

– Sound and New Media – (audio visual performance, sonic sculpture, intermedia / video / film soundtracks, installations, soundspace projects, radio works, net-music, generative musics, etc.)
– Electronica – as in Dub, Techno, Microsound, Ambient, Global, Minimal, HipHop, Jazz, Noise, Downtempo, Drum’n Bass, Mondo/Exotica, digital DJ-culture, Mash-ups, Music videos, Glitch, Plunderphonics etc.
-Computer compositions (algorithmic, acousmatic and experimental), analog and electro-acoustic methodologies, the use of voices and acoustic or amplified instruments are allowed as well, but the crucial criterium is the artistic and inventive use of digital tools to manifest a convincing realization.

The crucial criterion is the artistic and innovative use of digital tools to manifest a convincing realization. Participants may be individuals, groups, institutions, companies, etc. Exclusively commercially oriented activities in the sense of product advertisement are excluded.

Each participant may enter only one work, which has been created, realized or significantly updated within the last two years.
