International Gaudeamus Composition Competition 2009

Dear composers,
 
We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the deadline of 16 January 2009 (postmark) for sending in works for The International Gaudeamus Composition Competition 2009 is approaching. The Next International Gaudeamus Music Week will be held in Amsterdam September 7-13 presented for the second time by Music Center the Netherlands, the new sector institute for music.
Please distribute this information also to anyone you might think is interested in participating this composition competition for composers who are born after September 6, 1978. They may enter works by using the entry form on www.musicweek.nl .We would prefer to receive the entry form, score (PDF) and recording MP3 digitally at musicweek @ mcn.nl. Works may have already been performed, but they must have been composed not more than three (3) years ago. An international selection committee consisting of Julia Wolfe (USA), Huba de Graaff (the Netherlands) and Akira Nishimura (Japan) will select the works competing for the Gaudeamus Prize. After the performance of the selected compositions during the Music Week 2009, the selection committee will award this prize. This Gaudeamus Prize consists of € 4.550,- as a commission for a new composition that will be premiered during the International Gaudeamus Music Week the following year, 2010. 

Works can be entered into the following categories with a maximum of 1 work per category and 3 works in total.
 A – ORCHESTRA:
Orchestral compositions for the Holland Symfonia Orchestra with a maximum of instruments as specified: 
strings: 12.10.8.6.5., wood: 3.3.3.3., brass: 4.3.3.1., 1 timp., 3 perc., 1 harp., 1pno/celesta

B – CHAMBER MUSIC:
In theory, everything is possible in this category, within the limits of solo instruments to ensembles consisting of maximally 16 instruments; with or without electronics, video, etc.; written for specific performers or for any musician /ensemble. 
Also choir compositions with a maximum of voices: 2 sopr., 2 mezzo., 2 alt., 2 ten., 2 bas. 

C- ELECTRONIC MUSIC:
Electronic music meaning tape compositions, music for instruments and electronics, music for live controlled electronic music, or sound installations.

The entry fee is 25 Euro for each work
