Research Assistant MAX/MSP


matralab, the research site of Canada Research Chair Sandeep Bhagwati at Concordia University Montreal is offering a job as
Research Assistant Max/MSP/Jitter
For several current high-profile composition and multimedia projects in Montreal, Vienna and Berlin, 
Sandeep Bhagwati looks for a supporting MAX/MSP/Jitter programmer.

The job would require
– transforming Sandeep’s flowcharts, test patches and verbal patch descriptions into working and concert-stable MAX/MSP/Jitter patches including intuitive and easy to troubleshoot GUIs
– finding programming solutions for specific problems in dialogue with Sandeep 
– assist in the actual concert setup and testing of the programs and run them during rehearsals with live-musicians in a live situation (i.e. under time pressure)
– if recommended by Sandeep, the RA may be hired as computer assistant by one of the concert venues / festivals (with additional professional fee incl. travel).

Applicants should have the following qualifications:

absolutely essential:
-advanced programming skills in MAX/MSP/Jitter (incl. debugging and redesigning existing patches for CPU optimization)
– sufficient free mental time for the job (no big exams etc.)
– interest and ability to work with internationally renowned professional musicians and artists
– ability to work and find programming solutions independently while keeping to inflexible deadlines

highly desirable:
-workable knowledge of acoustics and electroacoustics
-read and understand contemporary music notation (for instrumentalists/singers)
-have some experience with live-performance situations and live-audio projection / recording

The job is available as of now, but will stay open until filled.
Position is open to students (all years and ranks, only ability counts) and non-students.
Working language can be both French or English.
Work can start immediately and should start latest by September 1.
Matralab is equipped with both MAX 4.6 and MAX 5.

5-10 hrs/week @ $15/h-$20/h + benefits, salary based on experience and ability.
Work may be unevenly distributed over time, with intense work periods before deadlines as well as slack weeks.

ICST summerschool and Classes 2008/2009


The Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology at the Zurich University of the Arts is offering for the third time a summerschool with classes in MaxMSP Jitter/ SuperCollider and other digital media related topics. These are adressed specifically at practising artists who are not enrolled in a curriculum at ZHdK.



The Classes are free of charge for students of the ETH, University of Zurich and ZHdk. For students of the ZHdK each class is valued with 1.5 ECST points. Tuition for non-students: 400.00 CHF. Pleae sign up early since the avalaible places are limited. Instructions for payment/transfer are communicated with the acknowledgement of your registration.

Summerschool takes place at Mediacampus, ZHdK, Baslerstrasse 30, Entrance 7 (Buildinge F, 2. Etage), from 1. to 5. September, and from 8. to 12. September 2008 starting at 10:00 to 17:00. The specific dates and times of each class is given in the information below.

Classes will be taught in German but all teachers speak English.
